Balance | My Word of the Year for 2019
Do you struggle to complete your New Year Resolutions? You should try choosing a word. Then apply it to your goals as the opportunities arise. It is simpler to balance one little word in each day than to check off everything on your goal list.
By April my long list of resolutions tend to be forgotten. That is why, each year, I chose a word to focus on instead. This word is applied to my goals, my parenting, my teaching, my work, and anything that needs nurturing in my life all year. I've used words like persevere, focus, and simplify. This year I'm going to work on balance.
Bal·ance [ˈbaləns] – noun. a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions.
How I Plan to Balance
Control the Chaos
Controlled Chaos - this oxymoron is a great example of some balance I need when it comes to my creative process. We've moved a lot recently, but we are finally settling into this house. I've designed organizational shelving for my room that will organize my creative tools among my things. The goal is to get everything out of the moving boxes, and into a place without having the creative chaos it normal ends up in.
This homeschool year, Emmett made it a point that he is really interested in inventing. Our homeschool, Aero Academy, is very S.T.E.A.M. oriented, however most of our work was focused on astronauts and outer space. Now, I'm going to make it a point to add more inventor based projects among our usual studies. It won't be much different than what we are doing now, so I imagine this will be an easy balance to settle into.
My family and lifestyle can be easily summed up as spontaneous. I love the impromptu moments we have in our life, and I don't want to change that. However, this year, I am going to focus on settling myself into a work schedule that is consistent. Instead of batches of being present, I want my listings, blog posts, newsletters, and social media to be balanced. Posting regularly and planning ahead without mayhem will be a relief.
All the house moving and illnesses of the past couple years have made it difficult to keep my heart strong. Lately, my symptoms have been more frequent. So this year I'm going to add cardio exercise into my daily routine. I won't push too hard, and I won't slack off. Being able to go out adventuring with Emmett is really important to me and my heart needs to be strong for us to carry on doing so.
